The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) announced 51 daily coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the county’s total caseload to 22,027 since the start of the pandemic. Of that number, 21,384 McLean County residents are considered recovered from COVID-19.
The new positive tests came from a batch of about 1,300 tests returned overnight.
Bloomington-Normal hospitals report 98% percent of their beds are full and 88% of the intensive care beds are occupied. Twenty-six McLean County residents are in the hospital with COVID-19. That total is unchanged since Monday, while Carle BroMenn Medical Center and OSF St. Joseph Medical Center have 26 COVID patients receiving care.
Carle Health and OSF HealthCare have said more than 80% of their COVID-19 patients are not fully vaccinated.
MCHD said 360 people are isolating at home and 76 people were released from quarantine overnight. The county’s seven-day testing positivity rate inched up to 2.6%, while its cumulative positivity rate held at 4.5%, based on more than 491,500 tests conducted since March 2020.
There have been 257 COVID-related deaths in McLean County since the start of the pandemic.
COVID vaccines
McLean County saw an increase in COVID vaccinations for the week of Sept. 22-28, based on data provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The 1,606 vaccines put in arms over the week is the county's highest since Sept. 7.
More than 186,000 COVID vaccine doses have been administered in McLean County. The county’s rate of fully vaccinated is up to 54.1%, compared to the state rate of 55.1%.
Fifty-six percent of McLean County residents ages 12 to 17 are fully vaccinated, while 58% of people ages 18 to 64 and 90% of people 65 and older are fully vaccinated.
