3 things to do this weekend: Ice cream, chili and a 5-K

Two people running outdoors in winter attire, both smiling and waving. The man wears a yellow jacket with a red number 655 bib, and the woman wears a white jacket with a red number 636 bib. A banner reads "3 Things To Do This Weekend" with the WGLT logo.

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Feb. 28-March 2, 2025, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

It's time: The wait is over! Carl’s Ice Cream’s Locust Street location reopens for the season today. One Debbie’s Brownie Delight Supreme, please. carlsicecream.com.

Walk it off: Kick off the outdoor season with a lap (or three) around Miller Park for the annual Zoo Stampede. All proceeds benefit the zoo, earmarked for a new sloth habitat. Chloe is rooting for you! 5K and 3K walk/runs step off at 10 a.m. Saturday, with a 1/4 mile kids fun run at 9:30 a.m. Online registration is $15-$45 at runsignup.com.

Food and fellowship: Downs United Methodist hosts their annual chili and creamy potato soup supper, plus toppings. Because why have one stew when you can have two? A suggested donation of any size benefits the Good Samaritan Fund. 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday. downsumc.org.
