State Farm, by far the largest employer in McLean County, announced Friday that it is ramping up hiring for its Claims workforce.
Over the course of 2027, State Farm intends to increase its Claims team by approximately 10% — or 3,000 jobs. Due to regular workforce attrition, State Farm will actually hire closer to 5,500 new Claims employees throughout 2027, which balances out to approximately 3,000 net new jobs.
A review of State Farm's current job postings shows multiple full-time claims roles available. Three "featured" jobs are Claims specialists roles — one in Bloomington and two in Tempe, Ariz. It is unclear how many of the new jobs will be available in Bloomington compared to the rest of the country. The jobs are classified as hybrid, which is a mix of in-office and remote work.
In a news release, State Farm cited a number of factors to explain the hiring surge. These include "new vehicles and technology, changing repair methods, and increasingly significant severe weather events," which all impact the types of skills a successful Claims employee needs.
“The people who work in Claims at State Farm are on the front lines of delivering the promise we make to our customers,” said Executive Vice President Chris Schell in a news release. “When someone experiences an accident, storm, or other unexpected loss, they need knowledgeable people — supported by leading technology — who are ready to help. We’re investing in our Claims team so we can continue delivering the service our customers expect while giving our employees greater capacity to learn, develop, and build their careers.”
State Farm is ranked No. 32 on the 2025 Fortune 500 list of America's most powerful companies with revenue of $132.3 billion. This means it outranks other household names such as Freddie Mac, Humana, AT&T, Goldman Sachs, and Comcast. State Farm says it processes an average of 30,000 claims each day.
