The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) has announced its highest single-day count of new coronavirus cases since May.
The county reports 38 new infections. Those positive tests came from a batch of about 1,200 tests returned overnight.
The new cases push the county's total of new cases since the start of the pandemic to 19,019.
Ten McLean County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19, according to the health department. That's down from 13 from Wednesday. Bloomington-Normal hospitalsreport they have 17 COVID patients in their care.
According to MCHD, 229 people are isolating at home and three people were released from quarantine since Wednesday. A total of 18,539 are considered recovered since the start of the pandemic.
The county’s COVID death toll remains 241.
McLean County's testing positivity rate dipped to 3.5%, below state and national averages. The county’s cumulative positivity rate remains 4.8%, based on more than 394,700 tests conducted since the pandemic began.
The county’s rate of new cases over the last seven days increased to 126 per 100,000 residents. The Centers for Disease Control classifies any county higher than 100 cases per 100,000 residents as having a high rate of COVID transmission.
COVID vaccines
Meanwhile, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), more than 172,000 COVID vaccines have been distributed in McLean County. More than 85,000 McLean County residents are considered fully vaccinated, or 49.2% of people. The statewide average is 51.3%
The McLean County Fair in Bloomington is hosting daily vaccination clinics from 1-7 p.m. through Sunday at the Interstate Center grounds.
MCHD also has two additional clinics planned in the next week:
- Sunday, 12-3 p.m. at Center for Hope Ministries, 14941 Old Colonial Road, Bloomington
- Friday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at Western Avenue Community Center, 600 Western Ave., Bloomington
