McLean County reports 3 more COVID-related deaths, reaching 18 for October

There have been 18 COVID-related deaths in McLean County in October. That's one of the highest monthly totals since the pandemic began.

The COVID-19 death toll in McLean County has grown to 275 as the county announced three more deaths tied to coronavirus complications.

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) said Thursday one of the deaths was tied to a long-term care facility. It was a man in his 70s. Two women in their 80s who died were not in long-term care.

The McLean County Health Department reported three more COVID-related deaths on Thursday.

There have been 18 COVID-related deaths in McLean County in October. That's one of the highest monthly totals since the pandemic began.

The deaths come as new coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have dropped in recent weeks in McLean County.

Fourteen McLean County residents are in the hospital with COVID-19. That’s down from 31 on Oct. 1. Carle BroMenn Medical Center and OSF St. Joseph Medical Center report they have 14 COVID patients receiving care.

Urbana-based Carle Health noted on its COVID dashboard all 18 of its COVID patients in intensive care as of Oct. 25 are not vaccinated. Peoria-based OSF HealthCare indicated 69% of its COVID patients in ICU (9 of 13) are not vaccinated.

MCHD indicated 224 people are isolating at home and the county’s seven-day testing positivity rate is 1.9%, just above the state average.

McLean County’s rate is fully vaccinated is 55.4%. That lags behind the state average of 56.9%, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
