McLean County COVID hospitalizations are at a two-month high as the county's coronavirus caseload climbs.

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reported 116 daily new cases on Thursday, putting the county’s total caseload at 26,408. Data from MCHD show 24,904 people (94%) have recovered.

The county has reported 290 COVID-related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Thirty-one McLean County residents are being treated for COVID-19. That matches the county’s highest total since Oct. 1, based on MCHD data compiled by WGLT. Bloomington-Normal hospitals are at 98% capacity.

The parent companies for Bloomington-Normal's two hospitals, Carle Health and OSF HealthCare, say currently 90% of their intensive care COVID patients are unvaccinated.

The county has more than 1,200 active coronavirus cases with 1,183 people isolating at home. The active caseload is the county's highest since Dec. 14, 2020.

McLean County’s seven-day testing positivity rate dropped to 5.9%, still above the state average.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), 57.1% of McLean County residents are fully vaccinated. The rate of children ages 5 to 11 who are fully vaccinated is 10%.
