The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reported Monday four more people have died of COVID-19 complications.
The deaths include two men in their 60s. They were not associated with long-term care. Two others who died were in long-term care — a woman in her 70s and woman who was in her 100s. They bring the county's COVID death toll to 294 since the start of the pandemic.
McLean County has more than 1,100 active coronavirus cases despite a drop from the weekend. MCHD announced 287 new cases since Friday while 342 people have since been released from isolation.
Twenty-seven McLean County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19. Ninety-three percent of Bloomington-Normal hospital beds are full.
The county’s seven-day testing positivity rate dropped to 4.8%.
In McLean County, 57.3% of residents are fully vaccinated. MCHD vaccination clinics will now offer Pfizer booster vaccines to children ages 16 and 17, now that federal regulators have approved their use for that age group.
School cases
Bloomington-based District 87 schools saw a 41% jump in weekly cases (41 to 58) according to its COVID dashboard. Normal-based Unit 5 saw a 23% drop in weekly cases (149 to 114), according to data posted on the district’s website.
Chiddix Junior High in Normal has the largest outbreak between the two districts with 17 cases, while Evans Junior High has 15 cases. In District 87, Stevenson Elementary has 14 cases and Oakland Elementary has 12.
