The Town of Normal will issue a proclamation for Leah Marlene when she comes back to her hometown for a parade and concert on Tuesday.
Marlene, a 2019 graduate of Normal West high school, is one of three finalists on "American Idol." She advanced to the final round on Sunday night.
The winner will be named during the season finale on Sunday night. Marlene will greet fans from a convertible that will proceed along East Beaufort Street starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Normal Mayor Chris Koos will issue a proclamation designating “Leah Marlene Day,” prior to a free concert Marlene will perform at 7:30 p.m. Town officials said primary entry for the concert will be at the intersection of North Street and Uptown Circle.
Town officials say attendees will have to pass through security and backpacks, purses and other non-essential bags will be banned from the concert area.
Event details are subject to change and changes will be posted on the Uptown Normal website, town officials said in a news release.
Several road and parking restrictions are planned in Uptown in advance of Marlene’s visit:
- North Street from Uptown Circle through the intersection at Broadway to Fell Avenue will be closed sometime between 9 a.m. and noon until after the concert.
- East Beaufort from Linden to Uptown Circle starting at 5 p.m. Uptown Circle will be signed ‘no parking’ after 4 p.m.
- Eastern-most part of the Trail East lot will ban parking after 4 p.m. It will close at 5 p.m. and will reopen after the procession (at about 7 p.m.)
