The Town of Normal is looking for a new restaurant tenant to move into a vacant first-floor space in its Uptown Station.

The Subway in that location closed in October, after 10 years in operation.

The Town of Normal put out a call for proposals on Dec. 15 for a food/concessions business wanting to move into the 1,600-square-foot space, preferably for five years.

The town’s the request for proposals (RFP) notes that the “business should be open and available during peak travel times at Uptown Station daily.” Uptown Station is open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. daily.

Rent for the previous tenant was $1,250 per month as of earlier this year, town officials said. The business owner would have to pay for any improvements to the space, according to the RFP.

The town “encourages the licensee to incorporate sustainable practices into the design and subsequent operation of the space,” according to the RFP.

Proposals from interested businesses are due by Jan. 20. A final staff recommendation is expected to be made to the Normal Town Council by the end of February 2023.
