Fischer has served as interim director since June, following the departure of Brian Chase, who served as the library’s director for 14 years. He left for a similar job at a Ft. Myers, Florida, library.

“The library board of trustees conducted a thorough nationwide search,” Elizabeth Robb, board president, said in a news release. "Many excellent candidates applied, and we are proud to name someone within as the next library director.”

Fischer has worked for the Normal Public Library since 2013 and has worked for public libraries for 20 years, including at the Bloomington Public Library and the St. Louis County Library.

“Our community library is positioned well with generous and talented staff prepared to meet the opportunities that lie before us,” Fischer said.

"This is a meaningful place for so many, and as we move forward, I will continue to prioritize the voices of our community, our time and our resources so that the Normal Public Library reflects a shared vision.”
