Connect Transit has scheduled a series of community engagement sessions to discuss a proposed change to the new Sapphire Route.
The proposed change would have the Sapphire Route operate between the west Bloomington Walmart and Rivian every 30 minutes on the :15 and :45.
The route, which started last October, would run continuously from 5:45 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. without breaks.
Currently, the route runs during peak times from 5:10 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. and from 2:10 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.
This change would also allow for better connections to the Sapphire Route from the Brown and Silver routes, transit officials say. Those routes go from west Bloomington to Uptown Normal and downtown Bloomington, respectively.
Additionally, the Lime Route would begin service at 5:15 a.m. from Uptown Normal to accommodate the Sapphire Route’s changes.
The Community Engagement Sessions will take place over the next two weeks:
- 4 – 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 11 at Mid America Insurance Meeting Room, 216 East Grove St., Bloomington
- 5 – 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 12 on the Connect Transit buses on the current Sapphire Route
- 2 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 on the Connect Transit buses on the current Sapphire Route
