One of McLean County's top prosecutors will soon become a judge.

Assistant state’s attorney Mary Koll has been appointed as an associate judge in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit that includes McLean, Ford, Livingston, Logan and Woodford counties.

Koll replaces retiring judge Robert Travers.

“I am honored by the confidence the judges of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit have placed in me and grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of our circuit through this new role,” Koll said in a statement. “I look forward to the challenges this position will bring.”

Koll, a Peoria native, has handled major felony cases for the McLean County State's Attorney's Office, where she has worked since 2016. She previously worked in the Macon County state’s attorney’s office.

“(Koll) has proven herself time and again to have the knowledge, skills and temperament to be an excellent judge,” said Eleventh Circuit Chief Judge Casey Costigan.

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lisa Holder White will swear in Koll on July 14 at the McLean County Law and Justice Center.
