A longtime associate judge in McLean and Logan counties is retiring. Bill Workman, who was appointed to the bench in 2014, will step down at the end of July.
11th Circuit Chief Judge Casey Costigan said Judge Workman will be missed for his dedication to his work and the people of the 11th Circuit. His colleagues and court assistants will miss his sense of humor and his “bow tie” sense of style, Costigan said.
Workman previously served as Logan County state's attorney and as an assistant prosecutor in several counties in the 11th circuit.
Workman is a veteran and lately, he has presided over the Veterans Treatment Court that tries to rehabilitate vets who become involved in the criminal justice system. He has shown understanding and compassion to veterans who appear before him weekly, Costigan said.
Once the state Supreme Court approves filling the vacancy, full circuit judges will choose a replacement for Workman to start in August.
The 11th circuit includes McLean, Logan, Woodford, Livingston, and Ford counties.
A Lincoln Community High School graduate, Workman attended Lincoln College and Sangamon State University. He graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1988.
