A spokesperson for MetroNet said high-speed internet service was restored to Bloomington-Normal customers by Monday afternoon.

A company representative said Sunday a widespread outage in central Illinois is believed to have been caused by a power outage at one of the company's area facilities. A company representative did not provide additional information about a possible cause on Monday.

"We appreciate our customers' patience as our teams worked to resolve the issue," government affairs manager Ben Ruzick said in a statement.

The company also did not provide an approximate number of customers affected by the outage, which was first reported late Saturday afternoon.

Ruzick said if any customers are still experiencing connectivity issues, they should unplug their router from their power source and then plug it back in after a 60-second wait. He said if that does not resolve the issue, customers can call technical support at (844) 692-6184.

The Indiana-based company first installed fiber-optic lines for internet and TV service in Bloomington-Normal in 2016.
