3 things to do this weekend: Sweet Nothings, holiday market and a nice night at Nightshop

Dozens of light-up Christmas lawn ornaments are tightly packed in a front yard. A black banner spans the bottom of the graphic, with white font reading "3 Things to do this weekend" and a WGLT logo.

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Dec. 23-24, 2023, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Postmodern Jukebox meets Squirrel Nut Zippers: Hannah Rose & the Sweet Nothings bring their folksy, vintage vibe to Jazz UpFront, for a set sure to include pleasant remixes of holiday classics, plus originals highlighting their magic blend of folk, swing and hot club jazz. 8 p.m. Friday; details at jazzupfront.com.

See Santa and buy kale: Nothing like that final gift grab and last-minute ingredient shopping! You can do it all in one place—and meet-and-greet with Santa!—while supporting local farmers and artisans at Bloomington Farmers Market’s indoor edition at Grossinger Motors Arena. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday; details at downtownbloomington.org.

Dads with guitars: Take a chill pill from holiday festivities with two local up-and-comers—and one back on the scene after a prolonged absence. Dad rock is a made-up term, but Gen X bands Kadync, Hotter than June and Kill the Martian each channel the alternative/rock/emo space their own way with a satisfying mix of covers and original stuff at Nightshop. 8 p.m. Saturday (doors 7 p.m.). $7 cover; nightshop517.com.
