3 things to do this weekend: New Year’s Eve, Noon Year’s Eve and a Hairbanger’s Ball

Five people bundled in winter gear joyfully throw powdery snow in the air.

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Dec. 30-31, 2023, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Countdown to noon: Children’s Discovery Museum rings in the new year a day-and-a-half early, celebrating New Year’s Eve (Eve) at a more reasonable hour for kids (and tired grown-ups). Celebrate with face-painting and crafts, building up to a confetti blast and noisemakers at noon—not to mention all the fun the museum has to offer. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday; tickets $7-12 at the door. childrensdiscoverymuseum.net.

Easing into 2024: New York City jazz starlet Brianna Thomas brings her silky vocals back to Jazz UpFront for a supremely cool (and affordable) New Year’s Eve bash on the town. 8 p.m. Sunday; tickets $40 ($70 per couple) at jazzupfront.com.

Rocking into 2024: The stellar ‘80s throwback cover band Hairbanger’s Ball rocks the Double Tree on New Year’s Eve. Tickets include drink tickets, hors d’oeuvres and a champagne toast, with an upgraded VIP package for overnight guests—with breakfast for two. 8 p.m. Sunday (VIP access at 7:30 p.m.); tickets $75-$349 at (309) 664-6446 and eventsatdoubletree.com
