Dr. Benjamin Taimoorazy runs his own headache and pain-management practice in Bloomington and another in California.

A Bloomington physician-turned-entrepreneur is looking to expand the market for his all-natural headache supplement to international consumers, after a successful rollout in the U.S.

Dr. Benjamin Taimoorazy said he created the supplement, called MiGuard, to give people who suffer from migraines and other headache disorders relief, with minimal side effects.

“A migraine usually starts in teenage years and you’re at the peak of your performance,” Taimoorazy said on WGLT’s Sound Ideas. “You’re going to school, you’re learning to drive, and all of a sudden you have to take something that is making your brain foggy.”

In a nutshell, MiGuard is a preventative tool. Taimoorazy said it works by delivering ingredients the brain needs to process metabolic activities properly, allowing you to overcome the oxidative stress and the neuroinflammation you’d otherwise experience. MiGuard is gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO.

Supplements in the United States, like MiGuard, don’t have to be approved by the FDA, Taimoorazy said. But he said it is produced in an FDA-registered facility, where pharmacists and chemists analyze MiGuard’s formulation. Taimoorazy said there’s “tremendous science” underneath the product, with proven efficacy and safety.

“We also took it a step beyond having it manufactured in an FDA facility and had it third-party tested,” he said. “Again, for compatibility, safety, and for lack of any heavy metals or anything else that is harmful.”

After two years of selling MiGuard in the U.S., Taimoorazy and his partners are now looking to sell internationally. To do this, they’re getting help from the Turner Center for Entrepreneurship at Bradley University. The Turner Center is home to the Illinois SBDC International Trade Center, which helps Illinois companies navigate the international marketplace.

Taimoorazy said Jim Ryan and James Foley of the Turner Center have been helpful with not only sending him and his team to expos and trade shows, but also connecting them with the right attendees who will be there.

“I could go and book the booth myself, but it’s like you’re one of thousands of other businesses,” Taimoorazy said. “Connecting you with the right people and spreading the word about you is what they do.”

Taimoorazy said he encourages all small businesses to connect with the Turner Center at Bradley if they are hoping to gain more connections and consumers who are interested in their product.

Recently, Taimoorazy and his partners attended a trade show in Dubai called Arab Health to continue their work in gaining international interest in MiGuard.
