Federal marshals arrested an 18-year-old man this week who is believed to have shot and injured two people last year in Normal, according to a news release from the Normal Police Department.

At the time, the suspect, Colin S. Simpson, would have been a minor.

Officials are seeking nine charges, including for attempted murder.

Both of the victims — one who was shot in the leg and the other in the back — have since recovered.

The incident occurred at an apartment complex on the 700 block of West Orlando Avenue on March 6, 2023. Police said that it was believed to be a drive-by shooting, and at least three people were are thought to have been in the car where the shots originated from.

Police have been investigating since last year. Simpson has been the only person identified as a suspect in connection with the shooting.

Simpson was scheduled for a hearing on Friday.
