One person was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday evening in Normal.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 5:40 p.m. on Vernon Avenue near Brookwood Drive, Normal Police said. That’s near where Vernon curves, between Towanda Avenue and Grandview Drive.

Police say initial reports saw the motorcycle losing control and hitting a guard rail near the roadway.

McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder on Tuesday identified the person killed as 48-year-old Joseph Penn of Normal. Yoder said multiple blunt injuries were the preliminary cause of death.

Normal Police, McLean County coroner’s office, and the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
