Bloomington Police say there was no threat to children or school staff after separate incidents triggered security precautions and disrupted busing Tuesday afternoon and again Wednesday morning.

The first incident happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday. It was a shots-fired call in the 1300 block of Dogwood Lane, just three blocks west of Stevenson Elementary School. No one was injured and there was no threat to the school, but officers found evidence that shots were fired, police said.

Given the proximity to the school, Stevenson initiated a “secure classrooms” protocol and delayed dismissal by 15 minutes until police gave the all-clear just before 3:30 p.m., District 87 officials said. “Secure Classrooms” is a standard safety measure that involves locking all doors and not allowing entry or exit from the building.

Separately, Bloomington Police responded to a report of an armed subject around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday on Christine Way. That’s in a mobile home park on the city’s southwest side.

That incident disrupted school bus traffic in the area. After being notified by police, Unit 5 sent an automated call to all district families notifying them about the impact on school buses. A Unit 5 official said the call went to all families – not just those who may live in that area – because it was the quickest way to share the information.

Ultimately, police said Wednesday’s incident did not represent a threat to public safety and that there were no shots fired or any actual weapon involved.
