The Connect Transit bus should be back at the Health Department in downtown Bloomington for cooling on Saturday. It will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A Connect Transit bus which became a temporary cooling center as the temperatures rose this week had to stop operations Friday. That's because its designated parking space in the McLean County Health Department parking lot was full.

Someone moved the cones blocking off the area sometime before Friday morning, said Cathy Beck, director for the McLean County Emergency Management Agency [EMA].

"This morning before they could get the bus there, the parking spots were filled with people either going to the health department or going to court or whatever they're there for," she explained. "And so there is no place to park the bus today."

Beck said EMA consulted Connect Transit about finding a new location, but decided against it since the heat index was slightly cooler Friday.

The National Weather Service has called for a high temperature of 94 degrees on Friday. High temperatures are expected to be near of above 90 through at least next Tuesday.

For cooling in the meantime, a list of centers is available on the McLean County GIS website.
