3 things to do this weekend: Art + nature, three ways

A woman sings and plays the guitar while accompanied by a man on a double bass, performing outdoors. The text overlay reads, "3 Things To Do This Weekend" and "WGLT.org 89.1FM".

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Sept. 13-15, 2024, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

A spectacular sculpture garden: The annual Autumnal Festival held at ISU Horticultural Center kicks off pumpkin spice season with hayrides, s’mores and a “wonder lab” where young botanists-in-training can see a plethora of flora. This year’s fest is designed to stoke awe, inspired by an ISU alum who was integral to the center’s art + nature focus. Saturday and Sunday at the ISU Horticultural Center. Tickets $10 (discounts for ages 12 and under) at horticulturecenter.illinoistate.edu.

An art fair with big cats: A new art fair tucks handmade finery in every nook and cranny of Miller Park Zoo; the animals are for your viewing pleasure only. 10 a.m. Saturday. bloomingtonparks.org.

Live music for picnicking: Waiting Room Records hosts their concisely named “Look, We’re Just Trying to do Something Nice, Okay?” Festival at Connie Link, benefitting furry friends at the Humane Society with a B.Y.O.Chair night of ambi/electronic music. On the bill: Creatian/Heap, Non-Linear Field, RasOm and Slow Dog (Eddie Breitweiser and Stephen Holliger). 5 p.m. Saturday at Connie Link Amphitheatre; free. normalil.gov.
