Victim identified in Sunday's fatal crash on Fox Creek Road

The 27-year-old victim of a fatal car crash Sunday on Fox Creek Road in Bloomington has been identified as Chakquia Echols of Normal, according to a news release from the Bloomington Police Department and McLean County coroner's office.

Echols — a passenger in one of the two involved vehicles — died from injuries resulting from the crash that happened just before 8 p.m., the coroner reported.

Michael Mitchell, a 25-year-old Bloomington resident, was driving one of the vehicles and fled the scene, said police. Officers arrested him later that day, charging him with multiple counts, including reckless homicide.

The driver of the other vehicle reportedly suffered minor, non life-threatening injuries.

Police say an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is being asked to contact detective Tyrel Klein at 309-434-2366 or Tklein@cityblm.org with information.
