Bloomington-Normal could see its first snow of the season Thursday, but don’t pull out the sleds and shovels just yet. It won’t be much.
Some wet snow is expected on Thursday in McLean County, with a 50% chance for minor accumulations on grassy surfaces before snow changes back to rain, according to the National Weather Service. Roadways will remain mostly clear as air temperatures climb above freezing.
But it will feel like winter. The weather service says we should expect strong winds through Friday, with the strongest gusts (35 to 45 mph) on Thursday afternoon. Wind chills will be in the teens on Thursday morning, and hovering in the 20s throughout the day, according to the weather service.
The Salvation Army in Bloomington says it’s ready to help those who need shelter. Its Safe Harbor emergency winter shelter is open, where guests will have access to meals, showers, laundry, case managers, and other community services. In addition, the Salvation Army’s Safety Net Warming Shelter is open from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and provides blankets, hydration and snacks.
Windy and cool weather will continue the next couple days. Scattered snow showers will be around tonight, with additional snow mixed with rain tomorrow. Light accumulations are expected on grassy surfaces in some spots, but with snow changing back to rain most should melt. #ILwx pic.twitter.com/8q3rY13H9L
