Police: Normal woman charged with manslaughter after leaving child in hot vehicle

Prosecutors have charged a Normal woman with allegedly causing the death of a 13-month-old left in a hot vehicle in August.

Quvonnay Collins, 24, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, obstructing justice and endangering the life of a child. She was taken into custody Thursday by Bloomington Police and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Police say Collins brought her unresponsive 1-year-old daughter to Carle BroMenn Medical Center on Aug. 24, where the child was pronounced dead.

Collins allegedly left the child unattended in a vehicle "for an extended period of time," police said. The McLean County coroner confirmed the cause of death as hyperthermia due to environmental heat exposure.
