The Bloomington Police Department [BPD] will have a zero-tolerance objective for the month of August to deter reckless or disturbing driving on the community's busiest street.
“If you're speeding, running red lights, driving distracted, or making enough noise to disturb entire neighborhoods along Veterans Parkway, expect to see us,” the department said on Facebook.
For the month, officers plan to respond to community complaints of excessive vehicle noise and unsafe driving by increasing traffic enforcement on Veterans Parkway.
Reports also include noise heard up to a mile away from the road are what officers are hearing. The noise is often disruptive during evening and overnight hours, the department said.
With high-visibility enforcement, Police Chief Jamal Simington hopes the corridor will be safer for the public.
“Thousands of motorists rely on Veterans Parkway to travel to work, medical facilities, school, retail stores, places of worship and restaurants. The safety of those motorists and the numerous traffic complaints from our residents are very important to us," said Simington.
"In an effort to improve compliance and safety, Bloomington Police Officers will deploy resources to this roadway to aggressively enforce traffic laws, with a zero tolerance objective for the month of August."
BPD encourages all drivers to slow down, obey traffic signals, put away phones when driving and ensure compliance with state law. The department plans to release traffic safety results throughout the month.
