Bloomington Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe has chosen Micheal Mosley to fill its city council vacancy in Ward 2 in southwest Bloomington.

The city council is scheduled to vote on Mosley’s appointment during at 6 p.m. meeting Monday at the McLean County Government Center.

The council seat has been vacant since Donna Boelen, the mayor pro tem, resigned in December.

Mosley is an information security manager at State Farm, where he has worked for 25 years. He’s currently in his second stint as Bloomington High School’s boy’s basketball coach. He also serves as vice president of the board of directors for the Bloomington-Normal YMCA.

“I am honored to step into this role and represent the residents of Ward 2,” said Mosley. “Bloomington has been my home for over two decades, and I look forward to working alongside the council to help move our city forward.”

Mwilambwe said during a council meeting last week that he had interviewed nine candidates for the seat.

“Micheal’s leadership experience, commitment to service, and strong ties to the community make him an excellent addition to the city council," he said. "I look forward to working with him to continue strengthening Bloomington.”

Mosely, who has lived in Bloomington since 2002, would serve the remaining two years of Boelen’s term, through April 30, 2027.
