Garry Moore to speak on the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion at Laborers hall in Bloomington

Garry Moore's career in television and radio has spanned four decades. He is the longest-tenured news anchor in Central Illinois, having spent 30 years on the WEEK morning show in Peoria.

A presentation titled “Why Black History and DEI [Diversity, Equity and Inclusion] Matter" will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, at Laborers International Union of North America [LIUNA] Local 362, 2012 Fox Creek Road, Bloomington. It will be open to the public.

Former TV journalist and Chicago native Garry Moore will host the free event. Moore is operations and programming director for WPNV 106.3-FM in Peoria.

Moore also works as a music teacher, storyteller and cultural arts presenter, theater director and playwright. He is a graduate of Bradley University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast production/management and a master’s in liberal arts.

Moore spent more than 30 years in television and is credited with having helped establish one of the country’s longest-running morning news programs. He served as the union president for the Peoria Local of Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists). In 2023, Moore published The Little Black Book For Journalists (Un) Afraid of Race designed to raise questions and provoke dialog among journalists.
