At least three online fundraisers are underway to help the families of the victims in the Lee Street killings.
Authorities say Chelsea Lusher, her son Armoni Bennett, and Trina Hollings (Lusher’s best friend) were fatally shot inside a home on Lee Street. Bloomington Police say their investigation so far suggests all three were killed by Lusher’s boyfriend, who then killed himself. All four were found dead Sunday morning.
A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for Lusher’s two surviving daughters. GoFundMe says it was organized by Courtney Lusher, who is Chelsea’s brother. It’s already raised over $12,000 toward a $20,000 goal as of midday Tuesday.
“We are raising funds to help cover Chelsea’s funeral expenses and give her the farewell she deserves. Any remaining donations will go toward supporting her daughters as they navigate life without their mother’s love and guidance,” the GoFundMe said.
A second GoFundMe is also set up in memory of Armoni Bennett, set up by his father Allante Bennett. His father says the money would "help cover the funeral expenses and to establish a scholarship in Armoni's name." It's looking to raise $25,000.
"I want to keep his dream alive, to continue the work he was destined to do. I want to make sure his name and his legacy lives on and make sure he gets to do just that," Allante Bennett wrote on GoFundMe.
A third GoFundMe is set up in memory of Hollings. It says proceeds will go to Hollings’ mother. As of midday Tuesday, over $6,900 has been raised toward an $8,000 goal.
“No mother should have to grieve the loss of their child while worrying about after life expenses,” the GoFundMe said.
Their deaths led to an outpouring of family, friends and community members at a candlelight vigil Monday night in front of the house where they died.
Lusher, a mother of three, also worked for State Farm. The Bloomington-based insurer issued this statement Tuesday:
"We are saddened by the tragic and sudden loss of our colleague, Chelsea. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who loved her and worked alongside her at State Farm for the last seven years. Her co-workers described her as a bright light who was always kind, had a positive attitude, and strong work ethic."
Bloomington Police are still investigating what precipitated their killings.
