Four people were found dead at a home northwest of Downtown Bloomington on Sunday, the Bloomington Police and the McLean County coroner’s office said. It's one of the worst episodes of violence in recent Bloomington-Normal history.
In a joint statement issued Sunday evening, authorities called it an "isolated incident" and said there is "no threat to the public," but have not provided additional details.
Bloomington Police say they were called to the residence in the 900 block of North Lee Street shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday for a death investigation. Police said they requested the criminal investigations division and the coroner’s office to the scene.
Police cordoned off a portion of the street with crime scene tape Sunday. By Monday morning, only one police car was visible on the block, with no crime scene tape.
Authorities have not released identification of any of the victims until next of kin is notified and did not provide any additional information about the investigation.
"Our detectives continue to work diligently [to] investigate this unfortunate incident in an effort to get some answers for the victims' loved ones and our community," Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost loved ones today."
U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen, who represents parts of Bloomington-Normal, said in a statement he was "deeply saddened by the tragic loss of four lives in Bloomington."
"My heart goes out to the community after this awful event," Sorensen wrote on Facebook. "During this difficult time, we must strongly support police and investigators as they search for the truth. Thank you [Bloomington Police] for keeping the community aware and all your hard work to get answers for the victims’ families."
