The City of Bloomington has announced the 2025 winners of its annual Black History Essay Contest. You'll hear them this month on WGLT's Sound Ideas, or you can listen on-demand below.

Elementary (Grades 4-6)

  • 1st Place - Zayla Nixon - Oakland Elementary
  • 2nd Place - Erioluwa Jegede - Oakland Elementary
  • 3rd Place - Noelle Barkulis - Oakland Elementary

Middle School (Grades 7-8)

  • 1st Place - Aaliyah Mohapatra - Chiddix Junior High School
  • 2nd Place - Carmen Wells - Cornerstone Christian Academy
  • 3rd Place - Jamarion Banks - Bloomington Junior High School

High School (Grades 9-12)
