The Humane Society of Central Illinois in Normal received what it said was an “outpouring of support” in response to a call for donations after their air conditioner broke Thursday.
With temperatures still hovering around 90 degrees, community members and local businesses stepped up to provide fans, hydrating liquids and cooling blankets for furry friends.
The Humane Society is evaluating whether to relocate dogs and cats to foster homes overnight. Those willing to foster a pet are encouraged to message them on their Facebook page. A spokesperson said smaller, less heat tolerant animals have already been moved into foster homes.
The organization said they now have enough fans and other supplies after donations poured in from Veterans Maintenance Solutions, R.P. Lumber Company, Home Depot, Meijer and individual community members. They urged those still wanting to help to make a monetary donation in the event that their air conditioning unit needs to be replaced.
