A lawmaker who represents parts of Bloomington has announced plans to run for a second term.
Republican state Rep. Regan Deering of Decatur, who represents a largely rural and heavily conservative area from north of Lexington to east of Decatur, said Monday she is seeking re-election.
“If you're fed up with high prices, woke nonsense, broken schools, and politicians who care more about power than results, I’m your candidate,” Deering said in a statement.
During her first term in the state legislature, Deering proposed 11 bills; one passed. It would require the Illinois State Board of Education to post submitted career opportunities for high school students on its website.
Within days of taking office, Deering proposed a ban on transgender girls participating in girls sports. Lawmakers never took up the idea.
After the session ended, Deering expressed frustration at the difficulty in getting legislation passed as a new lawmaker — especially in the super-minority party.
Deering, a former small business owner who defeated Chuck Erickson of Bloomington in the 2024 Republican primary, ran unopposed in the general election.
The 2026 primary election is March 17, 2026.
