The newly renovated Fairview skate park in Normal is set to reopen later this month.
The skate park, which first opened in 2002, has been closed since October for extensive renovations and equipment replacement. The public is invited to a reopening community event from 2-4 p.m. July 22. The event will feature skateboarding demonstrations and autograph sessions with professional skateboarders Jud Heald and Julia Brueckler.
Brueckler contributed to the creative direction of the park’s design, which features a street and pump-style layout with elements like a halfpipe, grind boxes, rails, quarter pipes, banks, stairs, slappy curb and one-of-a-kind pump path.
“We’re committed to creating a dynamic recreational space that reflects the passion and creativity of our local skating community,” Doug Damery, director of Normal Parks and Recreation, said in a statement. “This is more than just a skate park. It’s a versatile space for people of all ages to be active and connect whether on a skateboard, bike or rollerblades.”
Normal worked with American Ramp Company on the project.
