11th Judicial Circuit
McLean County Assistant State's Attorney Emily Young becomes an associate judge in the 11th Judicial Circuit beginning Aug. 1, primarily in Logan County.

In a press release, Chief Judge J. Casey Costigan said Young is "a highly capable attorney with a strong commitment to fairness and the judicial temperament our courts require. The people of the 11th Circuit will be well-served by her presence on the bench."

Young spent nearly a decade as a McLean County prosecutor. She attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and the University of Illinois College of Law, where she was a member of the Law Trial Team. She prosecuted a variety of cases in McLean County and is currently one of two attorneys who prescreen domestic violence cases. She has also been the coordinator of the county's Coordinated Community Response Team addressing issues surrounding domestic violence and serves on a coalition working to curb fraud against senior citizens.

Young begins her time on the bench in August, aligning with associate judge Bill Workman's retirement at the end of the month.

Workman heard cases in Logan and McLean counties. According to the 11th Circuit's announcement, Young will primarily serve in Logan County.
