A Bloomington man has died following a single-vehicle crash.

Bloomington Police said officers and the Bloomington Fire Department responded to the intersection of Center Street and Oakland Avenue a few blocks south of downtown at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said an adult male was found unconscious in the truck. He was pronounced dead at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder identified the man as 66-year-old Richard Thoennes.

Yoder said according to preliminary opinion from an autopsy, Thoennes suffered from cardiovascular diseases which likely caused a sudden fatal cardiac arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat, while driving.

Police said the vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.

Police said the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team was called to assist in the investigation due to the severity of the crash.

An adult male passenger was also hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life threatening.
