Illinois State University baseball shortstop Shai Robinson and pitcher Tyrelle Chadwick were selected this week in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Robinson was selected in the 10th round and was 299th overall. Later in the draft, Chadwick was chosen by the Colorado Rockies in the 18th round, 527th overall. There are 20 rounds in the draft.
With both selections, Robinson and Chadwick became the 13th and 14th players selected in the MLB Draft under sixth-year head coach Steve Holm.
Robinson’s selection by the Minnesota Twins is the fourth highest for a Redbird during Holm’s tenure. He became the fourth Redbird to be selected by the team, the first since Brent Hendrick in 2019.
During the 2025 season, Robinson started 54 times as shortstop. He had a great year at the plate, with career-best marks of 10 home runs, 45 RBIs, 48 walks and a .869 OPS [on-base plus slugging].
Chadwick will join the Colorado Rockies organization, becoming the second ISU baseball player under Holm drafted by the team, following Joe Aeilts. Chadwick’s father was drafted in the 16th round of the 1983 MLB June Amateur Draft. Ray Chadwick was selected to play for the California Angels and debuted in the majors in 1986.
In the past season, Chadwick earned All-MVC Second Team honors after his 12 starts and 14 appearances for Redbird baseball. Chadwick pitched 77.1 innings in his campaign along with a full game, and additionally was the MVC Pitcher of the Week for March 18 after throwing six scoreless innings against Western Illinois.
