Bloomington Police say they are investigating a fatal shooting as a homicide.

Police said they were called to the 1700 block of Illinois Street near Sunnyside Park on the city's west side at 11:35 p.m. Thursday for a report of a person shot.

Police said Bloomington Fire Department paramedics took the victim to a Bloomington-Normal hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The McLean County coroner has not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of family.

An autopsy is pending.

Police have not released any additional information about the incident, saying it remains under investigation by the Bloomington Police Department and coroner’s office.

Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady issued a statement urging anyone with information to come forward.

"Community safety is a shared responsibility, and we need your help," Brady said.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to contact detective Kevin Raisbeck at (309) 434-2593 or kraisbeck@cityblm.org.
