Bloomington's Parks and Recreation Department has launched a new survey gathering community input on the future of Miller Park Zoo.

In a statement, assistant Parks and Rec director Dave Lamb said the survey is “a chance for every voice to be heard as we build a future that inspires generations to come.”

Feedback will be used as part of a master plan for updating one of the oldest zoos in the country. The survey is available online through SurveyPlanet. There is not currently a due date for completing the survey.

Miller Park Zoo has completed some recent renovations, including the ongoing carousel restoration. A new monkey exhibit opened in 2021. In 2022, the zoo opened a new outdoor theater and received grant money to update the basement and small exhibits at the Katthoefer Animal Building.

A $1.1 million South American habitat opened in 2023 and houses a Chilean pudu named Puddles and Chili and Arnaud, a mother and pup anteater. And the zoo unveiled a new sloth habitat in June for Taco, a 4-year-old Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth.
