Bloomington fire crews were called to the home in the 1300 block of West Elm Street at about 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say a man was found dead inside a Bloomington home that caught fire on Tuesday morning.

According to a joint news release from the McLean County Coroner’s Office and Bloomington fire and police departments, emergency crews were called to a structure fire in the 1300 block of West Elm Street shortly before 8 a.m.

Firefighters said they saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic of the single-story, single-family residence.

Firefighters found an adult male inside the home. The coroner’s office pronounced him dead at the scene.

In a news release issued on Wednesday, McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder identified the victim as Randall Klockenga, 63, of Bloomington. Toxicology testing is pending.

Yoder said preliminary findings do not indicate foul play.

Ameren, Nicor and the city’s building development division also responded to the scene, according to police.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Bloomington Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact detective Brock Merritt at [309] 434-2359 or
