16-year-old girl injured in overnight shooting at off-campus apartment near ISU

A Normal Police Department vehicle is parked in a lot near The Flats at ISU, where police responded to a shooting early Saturday morning.

Normal Police are investigating a shooting at an off-campus student apartment building south of Illinois State University early Saturday morning.

Sgt. Jason Hollenkamp said the shooting was reported at 12:58 a.m. at The Flats at ISU, 709 S. Main St. . Hollenkamp said one person was shot and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He said the injuries were not considered life threatening. He did not have any additional information about the incident.

ISU Police said the person shot was not affiliated with the university. A spokesperson for Normal Police later confirmed the injured person is a 16-year-old girl who is currently in stable condition.

ISU Police issued an alert at 1:03 a.m. for a report of shots fired, urging people to avoid the area. An updated advisory at 2:33 a.m. said residents could return.

Police said the shooting remains under investigation and there is no information available about any potential suspects. A media release from NPD said there were no arrests as of 7:45 a.m. Saturday.
