McLean County property tax bills will be released next week to residents, totaling $483.6 million in taxes. The 2026 bill is for the 2025 assessment period.
It’s a 4% increase from last year of $21.3 million.
The taxes are due on June 10 and Sept. 10, said McLean County Treasurer and Tax Collector Rebecca McNeil.
McLean County’s taxable EAV, or land value, also increased. EAV now sits at $5.9 billion, an increase of over 7.3% from last year.
McNeil said while the county collects the full tax bill, it only receives about 10.4% of each bill. The remainder goes elsewhere.
“The treasurer bills, collects and distributes the rest to over 200 other units of local governments such as schools, municipalities, townships, libraries and fire protection districts,” she said in a press release. “These are itemized on each bill. Property taxes stay local.”
The largest portion of each property tax bill will continue to go to school funding, with schools asking for a total of $295.6 million this year, or an increase of 2.9%. That equals about 61.1% of the average tax bill.
New to property tax bills is the expansion of the Central Illinois Regional Airport to each tax bill; it comes from a bill Gov. JB Pritzker signed in 2023. It represents 1.1% of the average tax bill.
Other tax revenue goes toward the six wind farm turbines on the county tax roll, McNeil said. It’s about $11.6 million.
Billing information and payment options are available online now and residents can pay there, by mail or at most local banks.
For questions, the county is planning to continue public education sessions this year with dates announced later this summer.
