United Airlines’ return to Central Illinois Regional Airport [CIRA] is delayed until at least the fall.

United’s four daily flights to and from Bloomington and O’Hare Airport in Chicago were scheduled to begin Thursday. A CIRA spokesperson has confirmed the service is pushed back until Oct. 24 at the earliest due to Federal Aviation Administration restrictions at O’Hare.

“The FAA may revisit the daily operations limit over the summer,” said CIRA spokesperson Melissa Beaver. “We will continue to monitor the latest from the FAA.”

The airline has cut more than 100 daily flights at O’Hare to comply with a federal mandate that’s intended to maintain safety and reduce the likelihood of flight delays.

CIRA already offers twice daily round-trip flights to Chicago through American Airlines.

The Bloomington airport previously offered United service to O'Hare in 2008.
