So far, State Farm and Country Financial have fielded a combined 656 insurance claims in McLean County from the April 17 storms and tornadoes — 176 for Country and 480 for State Farm.
Statewide, both companies’ combined total is nearly 8,300 claims — 1,669 for Country and more than 6,600 home, property, and auto filings with State Farm.
In comparison, Country Financial said it fielded 13% fewer claims in Illinois during March and April this year than it did in all of last year.
Country said it already has closed nearly half of the claims that have come in, and inspectors have reviewed three quarters of them. State Farm has closed nearly three quarters of its claims related to the storms.
“The busy start to the spring storm season is a good reminder of why customers should have a contents inventory recorded," said a State Farm spokesperson.
Last year, State Farm paid $475 million in hail damage claims in Illinois. The state ranked third in the nation for hail damage behind Texas and Missouri, said the company.
“These storms are always a good reminder for home and auto owners to check their policies and make sure they understand the coverages if something were to happen to their property,” said Country Financial.
