McLean County's incoming sheriff will play a role in determining how the county's public safety and mental health fund is spent.
Sheriff's Lt. Jon Albee has been picked as part of a five-member committee tasked with allocating money collected from a shared sales tax agreement between McLean County, Bloomington and Normal.
One Fund Advisory Council [FAC] member is supplied by the interagency Criminal Justice Coordinating Council [CJCC], which picked Albee as its representative during the council's quarterly meeting this week.
McLean County administrator Cassie Taylor said FAC members are required to meet at least once per year to set the budget for several criminal justice and community behavioral health expenses paid for by the 1% sales tax.
Each member agrees to a two-year term. Albee garnered a unanimous vote from the CJCC.
The fund was partly created to pay back debt from a jail expansion and support behavioral health in the facility, which the Sheriff's Department runs.
Albee is running unopposed to succeed retiring sheriff Matt Lane in November's election.
