The five people injured when a pickup truck veered onto the sidewalk in Uptown Normal and struck a building remained hospitalized Saturday, including one in critical condition.
The pickup was eastbound on Beaufort Street around 3:15 p.m. when it left the roadway for unknown reasons, hit a pedestrian, and then struck the Children's Discovery Museum, police said.
One citation has been issued to the driver for improper lane usage, though more could come later. Police initially told WGLT it appeared the driver of the pickup had a medical event. Police say they're still investigating with the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team and that they're waiting for laboratory results related to the driver.
The driver is in critical but stable condition at the hospital, police said. Four others, including the pedestrian, are in stable condition at hospitals, police said.
The Children's Discovery Museum sustained damage to one of its exterior walls near Uptown Circle. The museum reopened Saturday afternoon.
