Five people, including pedestrians, were injured and the Children's Discovery Museum was damaged after a two-vehicle crash near Uptown Circle on Friday afternoon.
It happened around 3:15 p.m. Normal Police Sgt. Jordan Kreuger said two vehicles were involved and that preliminary evidence suggests one of the drivers had a medical event.
A WGLT reporter at the scene saw a dark blue pickup truck with significant damage sitting on Beaufort Street just off Uptown Circle near the Children's Discovery Museum, which was closed at the time of the crash. The truck apparently rammed into the corner of the museum, causing visible damage. Another vehicle sustained minor damage.
The severity of injuries is not known. Police said at least one pedestrian is among those hospitalized. It was not immediately clear how many people were in each vehicle.
Museum and town officials said Friday night that they "believe the building remains structurally sound." The museum was set to reopen at 1 p.m. Saturday.
All roads in and out of the circle were closed for several hours but reopened by around 8:45 p.m.
