Emergency crews are responding to the scene of a "major crash" in which five people were hospitalized Friday afternoon in Uptown Normal.
The crash happened near Uptown Circle around 3:15 p.m., Normal Police and Fire officials said. Normal Police Sgt. Jordan Kreuger said two vehicles were involved in the crash and preliminary evidence suggests one of the drivers had a medical event.
Police said a pedestrian is among those hospitalized. It was not immediately clear how many people were in each vehicle.
The severity of their injuries is not known.
A WGLT reporter at the scene saw a dark blue pickup truck with significant damage sitting on Beaufort Street near Uptown Circle near the Children's Discovery Museum.
Another vehicle sustained minor damage.
Police said all roads in and out of the circle are closed and likely will remain closed for at least several hours. Find alternate routes.
Please use caution in the area, follow the direction of emergency personnel, and allow crews room to work safely.
