Connect Transit General Manager Accepts New Position

Connect Transit's general manager is resigning after six years with the transit system.

During Andrew Johnson's tenure, he led this system through rebranding efforts and comprehensive route restructuring, implemented in August of last year.

He said one of the best moments of his career will always be the award Connect Transit received from the American Public Transportation Association. APTA recognized the Bloomington-Normal bus system as the outstanding small system in North America in 2015.

“I would like to thank the Connect Transit Board of Trustees for the guidance and support I’ve received over the years,” said Johnson. “Together the board and staff have redefined the concept of public transportation in the community.”

Johnson also worked with the City of Bloomington, The Town of Normal, and the system's board to acquire a portion of a 2016 sales tax hike that helped fund the establishment of Sunday service. While, GM, the system also implemented a real-time bus tracking app for customers.

Johnson's resignation will be effective at the end of next month. After that, he'll serve as Chief Operating Officer of the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District. The Connect Transit Board of Trustees will consider an interim GM and recruitment efforts during their next meeting on Tuesday.
