City Council Conflicts

Tensions arose on the Welcoming City ordinance between Mayor Tari Renner and aldermen at Monday's meeting. Alderman Karen Schmidt accused Renner of telling a social justice organization that the five aldermen who nixed the ordinance off of the agenda were "popping bottles of champagne" in celebration. Renner said he didn't recall making the remark.

Bus Crash

A Unit 5 bus carrying 47 kids from Evans Junior High School overturned Wednesday at the end of the school day. At least two children suffered minor injuries.

Community, Consultations

The Immigration Project and the YWCA teamed up for their second annual Couples Consultations on Valentine's Day to provide assistance for immigrants that could face deportation. Last year, they helped three couples begin the application process for citizenship.
