Central Illinois is expected to face some record-breaking wind chills midweek as an intense arctic air mass moves in.
A wind chill warning will be in effect from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning. Wind chills as low as 30 to 40 below zero are possible, the National Weather Service warns.

"Given that frostbite can occur in as little as 10 minutes in these conditions, it would be best to stay inside as much as possible," the weather service said. "If the heat in your residence isn't up to the task of keeping things warm, check your local municipality for warming shelters that may be set up for public use."
The weather could break some records. The record low for Jan. 30 (Wednesday) in Normal was 15 below zero, recorded in 1966, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast low for this coming Wednesday is 10 below during the day and 21 below at night.
The all-time record low for Normal was 24 below zero, recorded Feb. 13, 1905.
